The Subscription engine turns that decision into a native Shopify Purchase option: attached to whole products or a single variant, drawn on the product page in your theme’s own colors, sold at Shopify’s own checkout. You name the deal. Your storefront closes it.
From the team that ran a $50M Shopify subscription platform: every plan a native Purchase option in your admin, every subscription a native Shopify contract, every checkout Shopify’s own.
A plan is a name, a cadence (every N days, weeks, months, or years), and any discount or none: percent off, fixed off, full price. Attach it to whole products or a single variant, run several offers on the same product, set any product to subscription-only, one-time-only, or both, and let a one-time add-on ride along on the next order.
OpenSubs writes selling plans into your Shopify admin as merchant-owned objects: on the native Purchase options card, readable in native Liquid, editable right on the product page. Platforms come and go; the deal stays in your name.
The selector renders from native selling-plan Liquid (zero API calls, nothing to fetch, nothing to wait for) and adopts your add-to-cart color before you’ve touched a setting. Prices, compare-ats, and the live “Subscribe & save 12%” line update per variant and per frequency, and on a product with no plans the widget simply isn’t there.
The widget pins the selling plan to the real add-to-cart request (engineered around the ways real themes quietly break subscription widgets) and re-syncs when themes like Dawn rebuild the page mid-browse. And if JavaScript ever dies, it fails safe: a clean one-time sale, never a phantom subscription.
There’s no second checkout: shoppers buy at Shopify’s own, Shopify writes the subscription contract on the spot, and the engine mirrors it within moments, tagged and on schedule. From there the subscription answers everywhere Shopify speaks: the thank-you page, order status, native customer accounts, your own order screens.
